The art of writing, it has been said, is essentially the art of sitting one's behind on a chair. This is quite true. Still, there's a little more to the craft.

My perspective on creating is informed by the countless others with whom I’ve worked over the years, among them really quite clever and, at times, crazy writers, editors, photographers, art directors, chefs farmers, and diplomats from whom I've learned immeasurable amounts. During this time I came into my own as a writer and editor. I also came into my own as a teacher, creating an ad-hoc writing and editing practicum for assistants and interns at every publication I've worked. Quite simply, this seemed the best way to ensure others were given the opportunity to learn as I had, which is to say, by doing. Many of these former students are currently writers and editors in their own right.

I continue to coach others, fashioning lessons geared toward one-on-one sessions that take place in person, online or over the phone.Whether you want to conjure ideas, craft transitions, woo an editor, or simply write a recipe, I can help you understand that it's easier to do than you think.

You are like a fairy tweet god mom.

Hearing your insights and perspectives really helped to bring the whole process down to earth. I had researched pitching articles online but it just seemed to be impossible for someone who does not have the traditional credentials.

I've had quite an extensive tutorial on pitching in my magazine editing class, but you addressed many of the questions I've found cropping up now and again. I don't know you well, but the nature of your advice and your way of presenting yourself has already impressed me.

Renee is my favorite recipe-writing guru.
